Notice
Before playing the song and mailbombing me, let me tell you that Powertab isn't able to play back some of the passages of the tune.
So work on this tab (It IS accurate), play the record and TRUST YOUR EARS !!!
Here are some notes about the gear used by Steve on that track and how to perform some difficult passages (straight outta the tab book, dude !)
-Amp: 100-Watt Marshall head, straight into a 4/12 cabinet housing 50-watt Celestion speakers
-Guitar : Charvel "Green Meanie"
-Effects: A Boss Super Overdrive is used for lead fills
A Roland SDE 3000 is used for a stereo chorus effect
-All pick-ups selectors in 5th position (bridge)
OK, here come the performance notes !!
-bar 66: the lick is performed "hand over hand" by hammering and pulling off (that's flashier than a disco suit if you can pull it off onstage!)
-Solo 2 is double tracked
As you may notice, the solos are almost impossible to play accurately
Steve himself MIGHT have trouble doing some of the crazy stuff here, as far as whammy bar work goes.
As far as rythm is concerned, don't focus on playing the quintuplets perfectly, but try improvising on B dorian (or A Major) on Solo1,
and D dorian (or C major) on Solo 2.
Good News: B and D minor pentatonics and blues scales will work on those sections !!
This is a great tune to begin your work on modulations.
IF YOU'RE NO GODDAMN BERKLEE GRAD:
Do it by ear !! Try playing the same note during the transition between the two solos : does it sound cool ? Does it create tension ?
If it sounds cool, chances are you just played a note that's common to the two tonalities (that's a jazz concept you've just mastered here, pal!
If it doesn't (that is, your dog threw himself through the window), try another note, or try making it sound great by bending it or whatever.
Just remember wrong can be right : an "out" note can sound great if you bring the idea cleverly. As far as great music goes, sometimes it's good to burn your theory book ( "what theory book ? " )
Last but not least, have fun with this kick-ass song, that's why I tabbed it for!!
Enjoy,
