Notice
Awesome song, and a little hard to play if you don't have a
triple-neck-guitar :)
But the transcription can help you a bit to play it correctly.
The largue-solo-intro it was long to tab, cause is a complety
free time without beats to guide. But finally the notes is very exactly ; and the times too in the most ..but I tell you, the best is playing with your own feeling, remember that!
The song (when Steve sing) is good too, but some chords of the 12-string neck not satisfied me totally, is very hard to ear this chords with overtones effects and harmonizers. Anyway, sound good I think.
( If someone got the officials chords e-mail me please to update )
Now, some Guitars expecifications (thanks to Ivan Vera):
Fretless neck: Tuned to an E2 open chord - E, B, F#, G#, B, E.
With sustainer pickup on the neck.
Middle Neck: Which is the main neck tuned standart.
With Bad Horsie pedal and Boss Digital Delay
12-String Neck: Tuned to an F# major chord.
Went direct into an Eventide H3000
with a setting I had built which had all these reverse
clustered harmonic overtones with delays and stuff.
PERFORMANCE NOTES:
-----------------------------------------
(meas 1 to 48): In the first part of the Solo-Intro there's
a lot of dynamics changes, somes rakes in the fretless neck
to make ambient, and an delicated style. Use much feeling.
(meas 54 to 72): In the Theme 2 part with the main riff repeating
at background (w/digital delay) is entering the Fretlees guitar.
This section is completly "no-pick", Steve use only your left hand,
like a slide , and make very wide vibratos. When the Gtr.IV appears
(Gtr.III w/dist & sustain really) you can shifts the currents tabs
numbers to the strings above it in the file, to learn to play the melody with the same guitar in the B string .
(the transcription is make it over the Esus2 tuning)
Notice that ever I've not use legato-slides; this parts is completly
with legato-slides, but the Powertbas make errors in the playback.
(meas 76 to 94): Here begins the Steve Vai-Solo. Play this
section with the tremolo bar behinds you fingers, to make
the bar dips and slight vibratos.
(meas 95 to 104): Steve plays this with continuosly dips over
the tremolo bar when tap the notes with your left hand all
the time. Try to follow the notes secuencies and play at yourself.
The transcription is very aproximate.
(meas 106 to 110): The only single motion is play the G# and F#
notes, across the neck and over all strings. Funny.
(meas 112 to 118): Sweeping section. It requiered some time to
study and learn slowly, cause is alittle hard. In the part of
repetitives sweeps, try focus the notes in the E-string, and
take all other notes like pass-notes to play it very fast
(meas 138 to 155): In this part of the solo, play along without
pick, only with you left hand, and tappings techniques. Only
some notes over the final of every section needs to be played with pick.
In the Bass Score I build the delay for the Theme 2 part till end of
Solo-Intro.
I tab out some parts of the keyboards and synths too , for fillings
pourpouses ...and nothing else by the instruments limitations of the Powertab.
