This piece is truly a masterpiece. One of Dime's best works of his life, his short, but very well lived life. Anyway, on to the performance notes.
For starters, I tabbed this piece like my band plays it, like they played it live for the most part. So there are a few differences in the song that I tabbed out than the recorded version, specifically in the solo. I "double tracked" the parts just to add depth into the tab, so don't look into that at all.
It might be best to start off the main intro lick with an UPstroke, and not a downstroke. It will probably make this easier to play in the long run. Of course this all depends on how well you can pick stuff like this up. You may not have to use an upstroke. But be carefull to pick each note, and not let the D ring out.
The verses and chorus and such are pretty much cut and dry, so we'll skip to the fun parts!
SOLO SECTION:
At measure 51, be carefull. The first section of 11,12,15 is picked and you could also mute it if you want, but the next set is more legato, hammered on.
Live, Dime extended the stuff in measure 53 and 54 on into 55, so that's what I did here, because I like the tension it creates in the music, making it want to go down into the next part of the solo.
Be carefull with your bends and vibrato, making sure your bends are full and the vibrato is wide.
The next part I'm going to discuss is measures 71-74, which is the main riff. In 74, Dime extended the riff up one octave, turned on his wah pedal, and did a wide Vibrato on the top bent note. Turn off your wah right after this section though.
And that's it... That's pretty much all that needs to be discussed on the song. Everything else is pretty cut and dry, and should be easy to figure out.
I'm no bass player, so I'm not going to discuss it. Sorry, I can't make it any easier for you...
